Blenkinsopp Castle & Hadrian’s wall
We spent a lot of time yesterday on the M6 heading north and unfortunately it was raining most of the time! Passed the Yorkshire Dales but couldn’t see much as the hills were shrouded in mist. We had found a Motorhome stopover on Britstop where we can stay for free as long as we eat there. As it was a dog friendly pub it was absolutely ideal. Blenkinsopp Castle Inn is situated right next to a ruined castle. Fabulous spot and lovely countryside around. It was a delightful place and we were made welcome. Food was great and reasonably priced and we even joined in the quiz night and came third to our surprise as we’re really not great at quizzes. Won a mini bottle of Prosecco 😍
This morning we decided to visit the Roman Army museum and have a walk along Hadrian’s wall. The museum was great, really interesting and had films and videos playing which brought it all to life. The ariel footage of the wall was amazing.
After a quick visit to the coffee shop we fetched Dex from the van and started our walk along the Hadrian’s wall footpath. Spectacular views and quite a lot of the wall remaining in this area which was great to see.
We are now relaxing at the Hadrian’s wall campsite which is home for tonight. Lovely site very clean with a little shop and electric hook up as well as showers and a laundry. All very convenient. Sun is shining too! 🥰
Two turkeys which were in a local garden when Dex and I went for a walk!
The toilets in the Roman museum were set up like a Roman spa
Hadrian’s wall campsite. We just met the owner, Steve and he used to run the Nags Head at Abercych which is just down the road from where we live! 🤣 Small World 🥰
