A rest day at Sligachan
Day 19 Saturday 4th May
Woke up to glorious sunshine and had a lovely walk by the river with Dex.
As the day progressed the weather deteriorated and soon it was lashing with rain. The mountains look so atmospheric in cloud. We had a nice restful day and booked our ferry crossings to North Uist, Arron and then from Lewis to Ullapool. I have also booked campsites for the next 10 days as we found it was a real struggle to find any availability on the islands as it gets so booked up in advance. We couldn’t always get electric hook up but we can survive with gas for a few nights. The main thing is toilets and showers as our bathroom on board isn’t really practical so only want to use it in emergencies.
After the rain Dex and I went exploring past the Sligachan Inn and over the old bridge. Apparently there is a legend that says if you put your face in the water you will receive eternal beauty. I only learnt of this after we had returned! 🤣
We then came to a monument up on a rock which was of two men facing the mountains. It was so atmospheric with the mountains partially shrouded in cloud.
The monument is a tribute to two mountaineers, Norman Collie and John Mackenzie. It was very impressive against the expansive backdrop.
The cloud formations were ever changing and incredible to see.
