Arisaig revisited
Day 16 Wednesday 1st May
It was dry today so after our usual beach walk (John is a little better but still not walking far) I decided to go to Arisaig on my bike and get some provisions.
There were different sheep in the field this morning, apparently they are a cross breed of Hebridean and Shetland.
Also a really cute white calf
This grey sheep very well camouflaged
Dex loved exploring on the beach and rock climbing. There are rabbit burrows up there which he was excited to investigate.
Spot the Dex 🤣
Each beach walk is different because of the changing tides
Great views on my bike ride to Arisaig
The old church on the way into Arisaig
The poet Alexander Macdonald is buried in the graveyard here
After yesterday’s disappointment I decided to treat myself to lunch in the cafe. I had loaded chilli and cheese chips, absolutely delicious 😋
After my much larger than expected lunch I decided to explore. I found the cutest garage complete with petrol pump that I’ve ever seen 😁
I went into the Land Sea & Islands Centre which was really interesting. A small museum and a gift shop.
Arisaig has an interesting history and was used as a base to train special forces operatives during the Second World War. It was also near Arisaig where Bonnie Prince Charlie fled to France in 1746.

I filled my rucksack with supplies from the Spar shop before cycling back to the campsite. After a while I had to dismount to avoid a tanker which was blocking the cycle path. As I tried to get back on the bike my now heavy rucksack shifted on my back and completely unbalanced me. It must have looked hilarious as I completely keeled over on the bike in almost slow motion and ended up in a heap on the road with the bike on top of me 🤣 no damage fortunately except a bruised pride especially as a motorist had stopped to check on me. I hastily got back on and whizzed away! 😁 Of course it could have been the weight of all those chips that unbalanced me! 😆
After the museum Brucie & I enjoyed the views.
