Day 27 Sunday 12th May
Nice weather today and I saw a corn crake when I took Dex for a walk! They make the strangest noise like a croak crossed with the sound a cricket makes. Really loud too! Rubbish photo unfortunately, I will have to invest in one of those amazing telescopic lenses!
We set off for Stornoway. We had time to visit Lews Castle first. Dex and I explored the grounds and surrounding woodland. Lews Castle
The Castle is owned by the council now and is free entry. You can go inside, there is a function room and a cafe. The rest of the rooms have been converted into luxury accommodation.
We set off for the ferry terminal but unfortunately the ferry was delayed by an hour. No shops open here on Sundays not even supermarkets! So just had to play the waiting game.
Finally our ferry arrived. There had been technical issues so I was pleased they had got them sorted before we set sail!
We were first to board. Ours is front left.
It was a really nice ship, comfy lounge areas, bar, cafe, restaurant, kids play area and games room. Brucie decided he fancied an ice cream. Scottish tablet his favourite 😋
It was raining hard for quite a lot of the voyage but fortunately stopped as we were coming in to Ullapool.
I could see a cruise ship and a tall ship in the harbour.
It was docking time and we were ready to get to our campsite which was three miles outside Ullapool.
Only 170 miles to John O Groats!
We could see our campsite it the bay below.
We had a pitch right on the front, absolutely stunning 😍
Dex and I went for a walk on the beach. We met a couple from Eastbourne who were parked next to us. They had hired a Motorhome and it had already broken down twice! I felt for them as it’s hard enough negotiating the roads without any problems!
The cruise ship was leaving town.
We had tomato soup and beef rolls for dinner as it was getting late and neither of us fancied cooking.
The view at bedtime was just breathtaking.
