Alloa

 Tuesday 20th August Day 3

We got up early and whilst John sorted the van Dex and I went on a riverside walk from the farm. It wasn’t raining which was a bonus as we’d had torrential rain overnight. I love the sound of the rain on the roof it’s really soothing but John said it kept him awake.

We were lucky to get through the field before the sheep arrived!

Soon after we were on our way over the bridge at Kirkoswold.

Back on the A9 heading for Carlisle.

We stopped at Tesco Carlisle for provisions and Dex guarded the van from the passenger seat!

On our way and we soon crossed the boarder into Scotland.

I then spotted a sign for Ecclefechan and persuaded John to make a quick detour on the search for tarts! We both absolutely love Ecclefechan tarts since my sister Jan introduced them to us. In my fantasy world Ecclefechan would have a bakery making freshly baked tarts on the premises. The reality was far from that ideal, there was no bakery just a Cost Cutter and a Premier stores, both of which had run out of tarts! Oh well the diet wins today! 🤣

Back on the motorway there were weather warning signs and we were soon in the rain and wind.

We stopped at Cairn Lodge service station where they had a farm shop. I bought some biscuits to compensate for the lack of tarts 🤣

The weather wasn’t improving!

We saw this great artwork at one of the roundabouts it’s called Journeys end and is by Andy Scott. Symbolising a welcome to visitors so that’s good!

Soon we were at Alloa and arrived at Woods Caravan Park. Really lovely site with modern clean facilities.

There were lovely Mountain views. We decided to take Dex out as it had stopped raining. There was a disused railway line track nearby so we walked along that.

We turned off the railway track and down another road which led to a rough track and some ramshackle houses. There were goats roaming around and geese! John got chased by one of the goats and Dex and I had to run from the geese! We were glad to get past that lot! 🤣

The guard goat!

We went past Sauchie Tower

Back to the van and then the rain started coming down really heavy. Warm and cosy inside though! 🥰
