Road to Nairn

 Wednesday 21st August Day 4

We had torrential rain again overnight but woke up to clear skies 🥰 It soon clouded over but Dex and I managed a dog walk without getting wet! We walked the other direction along the disused railway tracks and came to some lovely fields. Dex was happy chasing a squirrel 🤣

We set off again heading for Nairn. I did wonder if that was where Nairn Oatcakes come from but no, they originated elsewhere from a couple with the surname Nairn.

We decided to stop for lunch at Pitlochry. It looked a lovely place with lots to see but unfortunately we couldn’t find anywhere to park! It was rammed and the car parks had no areas for Motorhomes. Such a shame but we had no choice but to drive on. We found a lay-by and I made lunch on board. That’s the beauty of having everything you need on board.

Moving on we admired the gorgeous purple heather everywhere.

Soon we were coming into Inverness.

Some miles later we reached the Barrow campsite inland from Nairn. A gorgeous site in the middle of fields and a pond and dog walk to the nearby river. It wasn’t raining so we decided to get the chairs out!

This didn’t last long as the wind started getting really strong and apparently gales were forecast overnight so after about an hour we packed everything away and set off for a walk.

There were lots of Broom bushes with seed pods. They were thrashing around in the wind.

We saw a gorgeous bird which I didn’t recognise and it flew off dipping up and down as it flew.

We carried on around the pond and into a field which had a Bronze Age Burial Barrow.

We carried on to the river.

There were some lovely wild flowers including a red clover which I hadn’t seen before.

They also had Llamas, Alpacas and goats. John wasn’t getting too close 🤣

We hunkered down for the evening as the gales had reached us now. Hopefully we won’t get blown away!
