Road trip to Scarfskerry

 Saturday 24th August Day 7

It was sunny and the wind had dropped so Dex and I set off for our morning walk.

We went over to see the highland cows. They were eating the leaves off the trees.

The Alpacas were also out this morning.

Dex tried saying hello to the goats. He has goat friends at home on one of the nearby farms. Unfortunately these weren’t interested.

We set off for Inverness. First stop Lidl then Tesco to stock up on supplies.

After getting our shopping we set off towards Thurso. Over Kessock bridge.

As part of the NC500 route you can see how many overseas visitors come here. You can also understand why with such beautiful scenery 🥰

We went across Cromarty Bridge over Cromarty Firth.

This memorial plaque commemorates those who tragically died in the low level bombing exercise during World War 2.

We stopped in a lay-by so I could take photographs of the bay near Dornoch.

We passed the Castle gates of Dunrobin castle. Hoping to visit on our return journey.

Seeing all the wonderful purple heather I kept humming the hymn all things bright and beautiful with the purple headed mountains and rivers running by. It’s certainly bright and beautiful here with the sun shining 🥰

A Scottish Episcopalian church made of wrought iron.

We turned left at Latheron and kept on the A9 north cutting across country. We would do the coast road on our return journey. Along this road we came across a large wind farm so stopped to take a look.

There was a memorial here dedicated to the crew who lost their lives when a plane crashed nearby. This was in 1945.

We stopped to take photos at Dennet Bay. Beautiful 😍

Soon after we reached our campsite at Scarfskerry the most northerly place on the mainland.

It had been quite a day and we were very glad to arrive. I cooked jacket potatoes with cheese, beans and fried eggs, perfect comfort food! There are pigs and goats here. I will post some photos tomorrow as it’s raining now. At 8pm the owners came to put the goats to bed. So cute they had collars and leads and were led off to the shed where they are warm and cosy for the night.

  1. Wow you made it to the top of the world! Stunning photos, it's all all so peaceful up there. To top it all you mentioned my Nans favourite hymn, All Things Bright & Beautiful and it certainly is! 😍xx
