Dunrobin Castle & more!

 Tuesday 3rd September Day 17

It rained so hard yesterday that the campsite was flooded in a lot of places but luckily we were ok! Thankfully no rain this morning when Dex and I went out for our walk.

We were sorry to leave the campsite but we needed to move on.

Back on the road we could see mountains in the distance.

Passed a field of Llamas!

Around the headland we could see a wonderful castle type building on the cliff side. This turned out to be Dunbeath Castle. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dunbeath_Castle

Soon after we saw these beautiful Highland Cattle

In the distance was Berriedale castle or what remains of it.

Lots of beautiful scenery along this stretch of coastline.

The Duke of Sutherland Monument.

Our first glimpse of Dunrobin Castle which we are visiting today.

Unfortunately no dogs allowed in the Castle or grounds so we left Dex to have a nap in the van. He was fine.

It looked impressive from the front.

Even more so from the back!

We set off for a tour around the grounds whilst it was dry.

Maybe the Laird himself?

A lovely couple took our photo. It was so funny as I had taken a photo of them just previous to this and I was so busy trying to get the reflection in that I fell backwards into a box hedge 🤣

It really is a fairytale palace from the outside 🥰

The Fernery! Who knew such a thing existed!

Never seen these flowers before!

An Ancient Greek sacrificial stone given to the Castle.

There was a falconry display. It was rammed so we had to stand at the side.

A Harris Hawk in flight

A Peregrine Falcon the fastest creature on Earth!

The Peregrine in flight

It started to rain so we legged it into the Castle.

The old steam powered fire engine which was horse drawn.

It would have been rude not to stop for tea and cake 🤣

We set off on our way back to the campsite.

We stopped off to look at Carn Liath Broch.

We reached our campsite which was next to a golf course. You had to cross the golf course to get to the beach.

It said there were livestock on the Golf course!

They weren’t wrong! Unbelievably this cow appears to be on the green! 🤣

Brora beach was lovely. Dex was very happy to have a good run around.

It had been a lovely day but we were really tired.
