Larick & Tentsmuir

 Tuesday 10th September. Day 24.

We decided we needed a rest so we booked with Bob to stay another night. No driving today! It was sunny but very windy. We decided to walk along the coast to Tentsmuir beach. There was a seal colony there. I packed a picnic and we set off late morning.

We could see these anti tank stones which were laid in World War Two to stop any tanks landing by sea.

The path went alongside the forest which was supposed to house red squirrels.

The heather was glorious in the sunshine.

You could look across the water to Dundee. We had decided to go via Perth to Larick as the Tay bridge was being repaired and no large vehicles could cross it. It was meant to be open today however. We hoped to cross it later in the week to see Dundee.

We stopped for a much needed rest and a picnic. We hadn’t realised how far it was.

Brucie bear was ready for a snack!

We continued on our way. We came across this stone marker which used to be a boundary marker for fishing rights.

There were lots of different fungi.

This is the fly argaric poisonous fungus. It looks beautiful but best to avoid!

We came across this building which used to be an ice house back in 1852 to preserve fish.

We came to a shelter with information boards telling us all about the area.

We had reached the beach but unfortunately no sign of the seals. They must be further on. We were exhausted already and had to walk 3.5 miles back so after a quick rest we set off back to the campsite.

The wind was blowing so hard in our faces I couldn’t keep my cap on. It was really hard work walking back. We had a stop on the way.

We were shattered when we got back, definitely time for feet up and a cuppa!
