Off to Stirling

 Friday 13th September. Day 27.

Another sunny day! We have been so lucky with the weather. I took Dex for a quick walk whilst John packed up the van.

These geese were formation flying overhead.

We set off towards Dundee over the Tay Bridge.

We could see the railway bridge in the distance.

We could see a tall ship. This is the Royal Research Ship Discovery, which took Captain Scott on his first expedition to the Antarctic.

This is the ship museum and visitor centre.

This amazing V & A museum is designed to look like a ship and cost an incredible 80 million to build!

We drove along the banks of the river Tay taking in the views of the railway bridge. You can see the remains of the original bridge in the water. The original bridge was destroyed in 1879 by a violent storm and the train crossing at the time tragically crashed into the Tay killing all on board.

The replacement bridge was opened in 1887.

We stopped for a break at Camperdown Country Park and I took Dex for a walk.

We set off for Stirling. We passed a giant golf ball near Kinross. Apparently it is an ex NATO spy base or Intercontinental Ballistic Missile early warning radar.

We could see the beautiful Ochil hills.

As we approached Stirling we could see the Wallace monument in the distance.

We found the car park at the Wallace Monument and I left John and Dex in the van and set off on foot to climb up to the monument. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wallace_Monument

Inside there were 246 stone steps to climb. Good job John had stayed in the van as it was hard enough for me to negotiate these steps especially with people coming down and having to pass you!

There were rooms in the tower which linked the stone staircases.

Finally I reached the top.

The views were amazing and well worth the climb.

Stirling Castle.

Brucie bear was glad I carried him to the top!

The stained glass windows in one of the tower rooms were impressive.

I was so relieved to be back on the ground, it was a nightmare coming down with others coming up and I started to get claustrophobic.

After the monument we drove to Blair Drummond Caravan Park about 5 miles outside Stirling and settled in for the evening.
