Richmond to Bagby

 Friday 20th September. Day 34.

A lovely sunny day. Had a lovely hot shower and then we set off into Richmond.

After driving around and not being able to fit in the riverside car park we managed to find a parking spot on the hill which was only a few minutes walk to the Market Square.

One of the reasons for visiting Richmond was for John to get a hot (warm) pork pie. He had visited Richmond as part of his work duties in 1985 and had an amazing hot pork pie and he was desperate to get another! We had checked online and there was a pie shop selling pork pies but it wasn’t the original butchers. Apparently Greggs have taken over the original place.

He went inside to find out if they were still serving them straight out of the oven. They were! He was so happy 😁

We purchased 2 hot pork pies and sat on a bench in the market square and ate them. I’m not a massive pork pie fan like John but I had to try one. It was delicious and definitely the best I’ve ever eaten. Crispy pastry and full of meat, no fat or gristle. Very juicy because the jelly melts and makes the whole filling moist and delicious and if you’re not careful the juice runs down your arm!!

After our lunch we set off to explore.

Richmond is full of history and wonderful old architecture and cobbled streets. We loved it.

This was the old Castle Mill.

We walked down to the river.

The Mercury Bridge.

The Trotters are here! 🤣

We had a look at the outside of the Castle. We decided not to pay to go in. To be honest we’re a bit castled out! 🤣

Afterwards we drove to Bagby near Thirsk to see my school friend Debbie. She was kindly letting us pitch on her drive for the night. She cooked us a lovely meal and it was great to catch up with her and her daughter Olivia and mum Sheila. A great end to the day.
